Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost per week?
Licence Fees depend on the building and location, however as a guide, fees range from £225 per month  –  £310 per month, offering great value at below market rates.

What are my duties as a guardian?
As a guardian you are expected to live in the unit on a full time basis, keep an eye on the property, keep it clean and tidy at all times, assist Ad Hoc if we need access, report any problems and abide by the Ad Hoc house rules.

Can I live with my partner?
We only grant licences to individuals, not to couples. This doesn’t mean that you can’t live in the same place, just that you will need separate licences and be allocated two spaces within the building.

How much notice do I have to give you?
We only require two weeks notice to leave a property.

What are the up-front costs apart from the licence fee?
We charge a one off registration fee of £20 which is only payable when you accept a property. Before moving in we also need a £300 security deposit. You will also need to buy a fire safety kit at £65.

Where are your properties?
We have properties all over the UK. Please call for latest availability.

How much are the bills?
In most cases all utility bills are included.

Can I decorate my room?
This depends on the building again, but most units can be painted in a light colour (written permission needed)

Are the rooms furnished?
All units are unfurnished but we can advise you where to get low cost furniture.

What are the facilities?
All buildings have bath or shower units and a cooking area which vary in size depending on the property and are normally shared. Keys are provided to the building but not always individual units. Guardians can install locks at their own cost to their units but they must provide Ad Hoc with a copy in order that we can carry out our property inspections.

What about internet/ telephone connections?
We don’t provide these in any buildings. With permission you can have one installed although due to the temporary nature of the accommodation we recommend a portable option such as a dongle instead.

How big are the units?
Units are always generous in size but vary depending on type of property. For those of you that live with Ad Hoc for a while, you might experience living in a room in a house in one property then perhaps a large open plan office in the next but still pay the same. The cost is always based on location not size of unit. Property and unit allocation is done by Ad Hoc on a first come first served basis as our priority is to secure properties as quickly as possible.

How long can I stay in a property?
When the owner needs the property back, you will be given two weeks notice. At this time we will try to place you in another building, to date we have succeeded in relocating 98% of our guardians. Although it varies, we generally keep units for around 8 months, although we have had some buildings for over 10 years!

What else do I need to know?
All guardians are expected to live by a code of conduct which covers health and safety and consideration for fellow residents, a full list of which we will give you when you sign your licence.
